Volume I • Volume II • Volume III • Volume IV The first volume of the eight-volume collection of church historical works of the famous church historian, professor of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy Vasily Vasilyevich Bolotov (1853–1900) included his master’s thesis “Origen’s Doctrine of the Holy Trinity.” The appendix contains student works written by Bolotov during his studies at SPbDA. The second volume included an introduction to the history of the ancient church (the first part of his lectures given to students of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy in different years). The publication is based on the publication of A. I. Brilliantov in 1907, corrected and supplemented with previously unpublished lecture material. The third volume includes the second part of “Lectures on the History of the Ancient Church,” covering the first three centuries of the history of Christianity, published by A. I. Brilliantov in 1910, corrected and supplemented with previously unpublished lecture material. The fourth volume contains the first two sections of the third part of the Lectures on the History of the Ancient Church. These sections outline the history of the relationship between the Church and the state and give an outline of the church system in the 4th-9th centuries. In addition, fragments of V.V. Bolotov’s lectures on monasticism are published for the first time. This edition of the works of the outstanding Russian church historian and theologian Vasily Vasilyevich Bolotov (1853–1900) offered to readers is dedicated to the centenary of his death. Even at the beginning of the outgoing century, many prominent Russian scientists spoke out about the need for some kind of complete collection of the works of V.V. Bolotov, since almost all of his works, with the exception of his master’s thesis, were published in inaccessible scientific journals. Unfortunately, the social catastrophe of 1917 prevented this enterprise. At the same time, the tradition of the Russian church historical school turned out to be practically lost. Therefore, after almost a hundred years since the death of V.V. Bolotov especially understands the relevance of publishing his works. The publishing house "Martis" takes the liberty of publishing a collection of church historical works by V.V. Bolotova. It is designed for several volumes, in which the material is arranged thematically. The first volume presents the author's early work - his master's thesis "Origen's Doctrine of the Holy Trinity", published and defended in 1879, and the appendix contains a number of previously unpublished student works. The four subsequent volumes will include “Lectures on the History of the Ancient Church,” read to students of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy. The sixth and seventh volumes are devoted to the church history of Egypt, Syria and Ethiopia, the eighth volume - to various works on general church history. This structure of publishing the works of V.V. Bologova was developed by a man of amazing soul and zealot for church education, Evgeniy Alekseevich Karmanov, who unfortunately died in September 1998. It is obvious that if it were not for the asceticism of E.A. Karmanov, who for many years collected various materials from V.V. Bolotov, the publication would not have seen the light of day.
