Гимн 19. Наставление монахам, недавно отрекшимся мира и того, что в мире; и о том, какую должно иметь веру к отцу своему (духовному) 209 .

Leave the whole world and what is in the world, receive one blessed cry, mourn only 210 your evil deeds, because they deprived you of the Creator of all - Christ and (the community of) His saints. Apart from this, don't worry about anything else. Even your body may be as if it were a stranger to you. Looking down as if condemned and led to death, always sigh from the depths of your heart. Wash your face with only tears. But do not wash your feet, which are drained of evil (deeds), with water. And let your hands be bent; Do not shamelessly extend them to God, which you have often used for sin. Restrain your insolent tongue as much as possible (for it is very prone to sin), because because of it alone, many even of the great (people), having strayed from the right path, have lost the kingdom of heaven. Before this, block your ears so as not to hear anything shameful and vain; then, perhaps, you will master the language. Listen only to the instructions of your (spiritual) father, give him humble answers and, like God, open your thoughts, not hiding anything even to the point of (sinful) attacks; do not do anything without his will: do not sleep, do not eat or drink. And when you observe this in good time, you will not imagine that you have done anything great; for (although) you have sown in sweat and labor, you have not yet reaped the fruit of your labors. Therefore, do not be deceived and do not think 211 that you have found (what you are looking for) before you have acquired the spiritual eyes and ears of your heart with your tears, washing them from impurity, and (before) you have not begun to see and hear spiritually 212 and have not begun to change with your feelings within. For you will see much that cannot be expressed, and you will hear much more, and even extraordinary things, which you cannot express in language. To see in this way is a miracle of miracles 213. Such a (man) never thinks of anything carnal, but he tramples the earth, as if walking through the air, and sees everything even to the abysses, delving into all creation; he knows God and, struck with fear, as the Creator, worships (Him) and glorifies (Him). And it is a great thing to know (His) power and might, although everyone thinks that they know it; however, have no doubt, very many are deceived. Only the enlightened know this, but others (oh terrible ignorance!) are darkened by even greater darkness than the demons. But, O Lord and Creator of all! You, who created me from the earth as a mortal being and honored me with the grace of immortality, who gave me life, and speech, and movement, and (the opportunity) to glorify You - the Lord of all, Yourself, Lord, grant me, the unfortunate one, falling to You, to ask (for myself) what is useful. For I know neither how I came into this world, nor what it is here that (people) consider to exist. I cannot say, O my God, what my vision is and what the objects visible (by me) are. How have we all become fussy people and have no correct judgment about things? Yesterday I came (here), tomorrow I will leave, but I think that I will exist here immortally. Before everyone I confess You as my God, but by my deeds I deny You every day (Titus 1:16). I teach that You are the Creator of everything, and yet I strive to have everything independently of You. You reign over the high and the low, and I alone do not tremble to resist You. Give me the helpless, give me the most unfortunate, to reject every vice of the soul, which, alas for me, is belittled and crushed by pride and empty arrogance. Grant (me) humility, give a helping hand, cleanse the filth of my soul and give me repentant tears, desired tears, saving tears, tears that cleanse the darkness of my mind and again make me (clear) and bright, wanting to see You - the Light of the world, the Light of my eyes, my (I say) - pitiful me, having a heart filled with worldly evils, many sorrows and hostility to to those who caused my exile 214, it is better to say to my benefactors, rulers and truly my friends. For their evil, repay them, my Christ, with eternal, rich and divine blessings, which You have prepared for all eternity for those who desire You and love You from the heart.
