Chapter 13

This psalm clearly reveals the wickedness and lawlessness of people in all their endeavors in order to preach the necessity of the coming of Christ. Ps.13:1. The speech is mad in his heart: there is no God. Since, not realizing that there is a God who watches and judges human affairs with righteous judgment, they carried out every indecent deed, then for this very reason Ps.13:2. The Lord came from heaven. And this clearly indicates the coming of the Lord to people. Ps.13:3. Do not do any goodness, do not do it to one. The Lord, having come, did not find a single doer of charity, but everyone turned out to be guilty of every vile deed. Ps.13:4. The coffin is open, their larynx is 2. And the demons, like food, held man in their throats, not imagining that God could not forget His creation. Will not all those who practice iniquity understand? The word “Lords” should be read after the punctuation mark and taken out of context so that the following meaning comes out: everyone turned away and did it; they do not know the Lord. My hungry people did not call the Lord to eat bread. For they devoured His people, convincing them to worship the creature instead of the Creator. And they, having become advisers to others in evil, will not call on the Lord. For this is how the future should be read instead of the past tense. Ps.13:5. There, I was afraid of fear, where there was no fear. The law of Moses subjected to punishment, but the fear of Christ is blameless; for he teaches us to fear as sons fear their father. From that time, that is, from the time of the coming of Christ, they will be afraid of fear, where there is no fear, but not because the law threatens, but out of reverence, which is more appropriate for the free. For the Lord is in the generation of the righteous, justified by His coming. Ps.13:6. Shame on the beggar's advice. This is said to those who will persist in unbelief and persecute those who believe in Christ. Ps.13:7. Who will give Israel salvation from Zion? This is a twofold prophecy. For he proclaims not only the salvation that was at that time for the oppressed, but also that saving appearance of our Savior from Zion, which will be after a long time. Ps.13:8. Jacob will rejoice, - means the holy patriarchs and prophets, rejoicing with joy that Christ fulfilled the promises they predicted; and in these promises the salvation of all nations was foreshadowed. According to some readings [See. Ps.13:3' the fourth verse of this psalm reads as follows: “their grave is opened, their tongues are lusty, the poison of asps is under their lips: their lips are full of oaths and sorrow; their feet are swift to shed blood, contrition and bitterness in their ways: and they have not known the way of peace.
