“A Psalm to David for Confession” is not inscribed among the Hebrews. The Prophet here again calls all people to chant, urging everyone to serve the Savior God. Ps.99:1. Shout to the Lord, all the earth! “Shout to God, all the earth.” All men, lift up a song of victory to God; for the Prophet calls those who live on earth earth. Ps.99:2. Serve the Lord with joy; go before Him with a shout! “Work for the Lord in joy”; because the kingdom of God and our Savior is not like the bitter torment of the devil, but His dominion is meek and humane; therefore, rejoicing, begin to serve. “Come before Him in joy,” And Symmachus translated: with blessing, and Aquila: in praise; Of course, those who rejoice and have fun tend to sing. Ps.99:3. Know that the Lord is God, that He created us, and we are His, His people and the sheep of His pasture. “Take away as He is” 32 “Our God.” Find out from your very deeds that our Lord Himself is also the God of all. The Prophet teaches this here too: “He created us, not we.” Symmachus translated it this way: He created us who did not exist. “We are His people and sheep of His pasture.” This Prophet meant not only dominion, but also the care of God; because God is not only our Master, but also the Shepherd, leading us to good pasture: “we” and “His people” as the King, “and the sheep” as the Shepherd. Ps.99:4. Enter His gates with praise, His courts with praise. Praise Him, bless His name. Ps.99:5. For the Lord is good: His mercy endures forever, and His truth endures forever. “Enter into His gates with confession, into His courts with singing.” The Prophet calls the churches “His gates” and “His courts”: because they give us access to Him; in them one must narrate His divine and saving deeds, and, as a kind of gift, offer Him a song of gratitude. “Confess to Him, praise His name.” “For the Lord is good, His mercy endures forever, and His truth endures forever.” For is it not fair to sing songs about the One who shows us indescribable love for mankind and brings the good promise into fulfillment? What He promised in the time of our ancestors, He fulfilled in our generation, and truly granted the salvation that was promised.
