The Apostle puts on Christians the whole armor of God. This was a good fit following the previous lesson. For if someone, having heeded the calling of God, accepted the beginning of a new life, with the help of God’s grace, bringing on his part “all diligence” (2 Pet. 1:5), then after this he will not have to rest on his laurels, but to fight. He left the world - the world will begin to oppress him for this; he escaped from the power of the devil - the devil will chase him after him and set up intrigues for him in order to lead him astray from the good path and return him to his region again; he rejected himself, rejected selfhood with all the horde of passions, but this sin living in us does not suddenly part with its free life in self-indulgence and will constantly try, under various pretexts, to again establish within the same orders of life that so richly saturated and nourished it before. Three enemies, each with a countless horde, but the commander-in-chief is the devil, and his closest assistants are demons. They blame everyone on sinful life, the enemy of spiritual life. Why does the Apostle arm the Christian against them, since there would be no others at all. He says: “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in high places” (Eph. 6:12). For if it weren’t for them, there might not have been any fighting. Equally, as soon as they are reflected and defeated, then the reflection and defeat of others is no longer worth anything. So, everyone, look where you should direct the arrows, or at least on which side you should protect yourself. And fence it off! The Apostle prescribed several weapons, but all of them are powerful only in the Lord. Why did experienced spiritual fighters betray us: in the name of the Lord Jesus, beat the warriors.
