(1 Pet.1:1–2, 10–12, 2:6–10; Mark 12:1–12) On the day of Epiphany it is shown by action that the economy of our salvation is accomplished by the Lord Jesus Christ according to the good will of the Father through the communion of the Holy Spirit. Now the word of the Apostle instills in us that the salvation of everyone according to that economy is no other than the action of the Most Holy Trinity of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit: “according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ” (1 Pet. 1:2). God the Father, seeing the one who has faith, greets him with His favor and calls him to salvation through the grace of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit, having called to faith and strengthened it, sprinkles the believer with the blood of the Lord Savior in the sacrament of baptism and, having thus received entry into him, Himself dwells in him and assists him in every possible way in the arrangement of his salvation. Let us praise, sing and magnify the Most Holy Trinity, the good co-worker of our salvation, and, for our part, “applying every effort to this” (2 Peter 1:5), let us hasten to adorn ourselves with all sorts of virtues in the image of the One who created and recreated us, so as not to find ourselves “without success and fruit in the knowledge of the Lord” (2 Peter 1:8) and not to block our “entrance into the eternal Kingdom of the Lord ours” (2 Pet. 1:11), to which they are called. 32nd week after Pentecost, 21.1.1887 You might be interested in:
