(Heb. 4:1–13; Luke 21:12–19) “And you will be hated by all because of My name” (Luke 21:17). Whoever breathes into himself even a little of the spirit of the world becomes cold towards Christianity and its demands. This indifference turns into hostility when they remain in it for a long time without coming to their senses, and especially when at the same time they capture from somewhere a particle of false teachings. The spirit of the world with perverted teachings is a spirit hostile to Christ: it is the Antichrist; its expansion is the expansion of hostile relations towards the Christian confession and Christian orders of life. It seems like something similar is happening around us. For now there is only a thin growl going around everywhere; but it is not surprising that what was prophesied by the Lord will soon begin: “they will lay their hands on you... and persecute you... you will be betrayed... and they will kill you” (Luke 21:12, 16). The spirit of Antichrist is always one; what was in the beginning will be now, in a different form, perhaps, but with the same meaning. How can this be? “In your patience gain your souls” (Luke 21:19). Endure with a firm word of confession of the truth in your mouth and in your heart. You might be interested in:
