(2 Thess. 1:10–2:2; Luke 12:42–48) The parable of the overseer indicates how a Christian should behave in relation to everyday things. The bailiff diligently conducts the business, but is not attached to anything in his heart, is free from any bonds, and relates to everything externally. Likewise, a Christian must place himself in relation to everything in life. But is this possible? Maybe. Just as there is external piety without internal, so only external worldliness is possible without internal bonds. - But in this case, everything between us will turn into one lifeless form, everything will smell cold, like a marble statue? - No, then, among the mundane, another life will develop, which is more attractive than the fullest worldliness. The mundane, as the mundane, will indeed remain a form, and that with which the heart will be warmed will begin to come from another source, and everyone who drinks from this source will no longer thirst. – But in that case it’s better to give up everything? - Why? After all, by giving up everything external, you can be bound in the heart, and without giving up, you can be free from bonds.
