“I consider it my duty to inform you about the wondrous mercy of God that was performed on me, a sinner, through the prayers of dear Father Fr. John of Kronstadt. The point is as follows: in 1910. in March, having caught a bad cold and a severe runny nose (I’ve had this chronic since childhood), I became completely deaf. Hoping that this phenomenon was temporary and the deafness would go away, I did not take any treatment measures, but the disease did not go away and only, having reached extreme exhaustion of moral strength, I already in the fall, it seems, in the month of September, turned to a specialist in ear, nose and throat diseases, doctor, Mr. Selyugin, who lives in our city of Rzhev. After examining me, he found a nasal polyp and suggested surgery. The operation made my situation a little easier, I began to hear a little better, but not for long. After a short walk, where I was blown by the wind (the slightest wind had a bad effect on my health and I was completely forbidden to go out into the air), I again became completely deaf. I continued to go to the doctor, and he paid more attention to the treatment of the right ear, despite my statement that I consider my right ear to be lost since childhood. Due to the former scrofula and the leakage of matter from this ear, I carelessly damaged it. You can imagine the horror of my situation, when my last hope was lost, especially when the doctor declared that my eardrum was bad due to the scars that had formed in it. Not trusting my doctor’s statement too much, I decided to go to St. Petersburg and consult with specialists on this disease there. I asked my husband to accompany me (I considered it impossible to travel alone in this position). On February 27, 1911 we left. On February 28, at our urgent request, we were received by a doctor who specializes in ear and nose diseases, the city of Polyakov, who, upon careful examination, also found the auditory membrane of the left ear damaged by scars; At the same time, he stated that all this stems from a disease of the nose and found it necessary to perform a rather complex operation of the nose with cutting out the bone. But, not having his own emergency room and in view of my husband’s statement that he could not stay with me due to his official duties, he postponed the operation until the month of May. The next day, March 1st, having a strong desire to pray at the tomb of Father Father John and ask for his prayers for ourselves, my husband and I were in the Ioannovsky Monastery, defended the presanctified liturgy and, after serving a requiem, went to the clinic of Professor Simanovsky, but were late for the appointment. I had to come on March 2nd, where, due to the lack of female peace, they refused to accept me for treatment. Having no relatives or friends in St. Petersburg who could advise where to turn, we considered all means exhausted, and my husband decided to go home. In view of fasting, I had a strong desire to confess and partake of the Holy Mysteries of Christ in a respected monastery, which, thanks to the gracious permission and hospitality of one sister, originally from our city of Rzhev, Z.V.N., I would have been able to do so, if not for domestic circumstances that hastily called me home. Having prayed once again before leaving at the tomb of Father, I took with me oils from his tomb and anointed my ears, nose and head with this oil, mentally asking for his prayers for myself, deeply believing that, according to his prayers, I would receive what I asked for sooner or later, and my hope did not put me to shame. On April 23, 1911, on the day of St. George the Great Martyr, when, apparently, my illness intensified, I entered the church with a heavy moral feeling and, standing in deep sadness, mentally exclaimed: “Father Father John, have pity on me!” and at the same time she blew her nose into a handkerchief. Suddenly something clicked in my left ear, and I clearly began to hear singing and church readings. Not believing myself with joy and thinking that my ear canal would be blocked again in a second, I did not dare to completely surrender to the joy that gripped me. But what was my joy and surprise when I heard well throughout the service, and since then a whole year has passed, and my hearing was no longer blocked, despite the fact that I had to be outdoors and during strong winds. In all this I see a wondrous manifestation of God’s mercy through the prayers of Father Fr. John of Kronstadt. The prayer of the Righteous One can do much for the mercy of the Master.
