About the prohibition of double (mixed) monasteries and about the way of communication between monks and nuns.
From now on, we determine that the monastery should not be double, because for many this is a temptation and a stumbling block. If someone, together with their relatives, intends to renounce the world and follow the monastic life, then men should go to a monastery, and women should enter a nunnery, for this pleases God. Let the monasteries, which are still double, be governed according to the rule of our holy father Basil and, according to his commandment, be organized as follows. Let monks and nuns not live in the same monastery, because living together gives rise to adultery. Let not a monk and a nun, or a nun and a monk, dare to talk alone. Let no monk go to bed in a nunnery, and no nun and monk eat alone. And when the male side provides the nuns with the necessities of life, let the abbess of the convent receive it, along with some old nun outside the gate. If it happens that the monk wants to see some relative, let him talk with her in the presence of the abbess, and, moreover, in a taciturn and short manner.

Ἀπὸ τοῦ παρόντος ὁρίζομεν, μὴ γίνεσθαι διπλοῦν μοναστήριον, ὅτι σκάνδαλον καὶ πρόσκομμα τοῖς πολλοῖς γίνεται τοῦτο. Εἰ δέ τινες μετὰ συγγενῶν προαιροῦνται ἀποτάξασθαι, καὶ τῷ μονήρει βίῳ κατακολουθεῖν, τοὺς μὲν ἄνδρας δεῖ ἀπιέναι εἰς ἀνδρῷον μοναστήριον, τὰς δὲ γυναῖκας εἰσιέναι ἐν γυναικείῳ μοναστηρίῳ· ἐπὶ τούτῳ γὰρ εὐαρεστεῖται ὁ Θεός.
