On the prohibition of clergy from serving in two churches for the sake of self-interest.
From now on, a cleric should not be appointed to two churches, for this is characteristic of mercenary behavior and greed and is alien to church custom. For we have heard the very voice of the Lord: No one can serve two masters: for either he will hate one and love the other; or he will be zealous for one and neglectful of the other (Matthew 6:24). So, everyone, according to the apostolic voice, in what he is called, must remain in that (1 Cor. 7:20) and serve in one church. What happens in church affairs out of greed is alien to God. To meet the needs of this life there are various activities. Therefore, if anyone wants, let him provide himself with what is necessary for the body with their help, for the apostle said: These hands have served my needs and the needs that were with me (Acts 20:34). And so it should be in this God-protected city. In remote areas, due to lack of people, let concessions be made.

Κληρικὸς ἀπὸ τοῦ παρόντος μὴ καταταττέσθω ἐν δυσὶν ἐκκλησίαις· ἐμπορίας γὰρ καὶ αἰσχροκερδείας τούτου ἴδιον, καὶ ἀλλότριον ἐκκλησιαστικῆς συνηθείας. Ἠκούσαμεν γὰρ ἐξ αὐτῆς τῆς Κυριακῆς φωνῆς, ὅτι, Οὐ δύναταί τις δυσὶ κυρίοις δουλεύειν· ἢ γὰρ τὸν ἕνα μισήσει, καὶ τὸν ἕτερον ἀγαπήσει, ἢ τοῦ ἑνὸς ἀνθέξεται, καὶ τοῦ ἑτέρου καταφρονήσει. Ἕκαστος οὖν, κατὰ τὴν ἀποστολικὴν φωνήν, ἐν ᾧ ἐκλήθη, ἐν τούτῳ ὀφείλει μένειν, καὶ προσεδρεύειν ἐν μιᾷ ἐκκλησίᾳ.
