On sending letters to superiors asking for protection from the Maximianists.
So, it was desired to send letters from our Council to the rulers of Africa - it was considered decent to ask them for the help of the common Mother, the Catholic Church, in cases where episcopal authority in the cities is neglected. Namely, to ask that they show zeal for the Christian faith and the power given to the rulers, conduct an investigation into what happened in all those places where the Maximianists took possession of the churches, as well as about those who broke away under their influence; and that information about this, reliable for everyone, must be included in public records.

Ἤρεσε τοίνυν, ἵνα ἐκ τῆς ἡμετέρας συνόδου γράμματα πρὸς τοὺς τῆς Ἀφρικῆς, ἄρχοντας δοθῶσιν, ἀφ᾽ ὧν αἰτῆσαι ἁρμόδιον ἔδοξε, περὶ τοῦ βοηθῆσαι τῇ κοινῇ μητρὶ τῇ καθολικῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ, ἐν οἷς ἡ τῶν ἐπισκόπων αὐθεντία ἐν ταῖς πόλεσι καταφρονεῖται· τουτέστιν, ἵνα ἀρχοντικῇ δυναστείᾳ καὶ ἐπιμελείᾳ, καὶ Χριστιανικῇ πίστει ἀναζητήσωσι τὰ γενόμενα ἐν ὅλοις τοῖς τόποις, ἐν οἷς οἱ Μαξιμιανισταὶ τὰς ἐκκλησίας κατέσχον, ἔτι δὲ καὶ τοὺς ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν ἀποσχίσαντας, καὶ δημοσίοις πεπραγμένοις τὴν περὶ τούτων γνῶσιν βεβαίαν πᾶσιν ἀναγκαίως ποιήσωσιν ἐντεθῆναι.[1]
