That a bishop, even when his death is approaching, should not appoint another bishop in his place
A bishop is not allowed to appoint another as his successor in his place, even if he himself was at the end of his life. If something like this happens, then the decree will have no force. Let the church institution be observed, which determines that this should not be done otherwise than at the Council and by the decision of the bishops who have the power after the death of the deceased to produce a worthy one.

Ἐπίσκοπον μὴ ἐξεῖναι ἀντ᾽ αὐτοῦ καθιστᾶν ἕτερον ἑαυτοῦ διάδοχον, κἂν πρὸς τῇ τελευτῇ τοῦ βίου τυγχάνῃ· εἰ δέ τι, τοιοῦτον γίγνοιτο, ἄκυρον εἶναι τὴν κατάστασιν. Φυλάττεσθαι δὲ τὸν θεσμὸν τὸν ἐκκλησιαστικὸν περιέχοντα, μὴ δεῖν ἄλλως γίνεσθαι ἐπίσκοπον, ἢ μετὰ συνόδου καὶ ἐπικρίσεως ἐπισκόπων, τῶν μετὰ τὴν κοίμησιν τοῦ ἀναπαυσαμένου τὴν ἐξουσίαν ἐχόντων τοῦ προάγεσθαι τὸν ἄξιον.
