WCC shares greetings for 180th anniversary of World Evangelical Alliance

World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay shared warm greetings for the 180th anniversary of World Evangelical Alliance.

"We thank God for the many ways in which this ministry has contributed to the life and witness of the worldwide Christian community,” Pillay wrote. “ We celebrate this anniversary at a time of profound global challenge.”

Pillay reflected that our world is marked by wars and violence, growing inequality, poverty, displacement and migration, climate change, political polarization, religious intolerance, and deepening divisions within and among societies. “ It is precisely in these difficult times that our proclamation of Jesus Christ matters profoundly,” he said. “ The challenges before us also remind us that Christians need one another.”

In a fragmented world, Pillay noted, our unity in Christ is itself a powerful witness. “ There is much we can learn from one another and much that we can do together in the service of God's mission,”…
