Romania and Ukraine resumed cooperation on the rights of national minorities: Significant progress was notedtranslated

The authorities from Romania and Ukraine resumed cooperation on the rights of national minorities, during the first meeting of the Mixed Intergovernmental Commission organized after 2018.

According to a statement sent by the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS), the Meeting took place online on August 28 and marked the resumption of the activity of a bilateral mechanism dedicated to protecting the rights of persons belonging to national minorities.

The Ukrainian side was led by Viktor Yelenski, the president of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policies and Freedom of Conscience, and the Romanian delegation by Clara-Alexandra Volintiru, secretary of state in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The resumption of the Commission's activity came as a result of the meeting in March between the President of Ukraine, Volodîmîr Zelenski, and the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, when the Joint Declaration on the establishment of the Strategic Partnership between the two states was signed.
