Procession through the Streets of Alexandria: We Pray for God’s Protection and the Saints’ Intercession for Ourselves and Our Towns and Villagestranslated

The Municipality of Alexandria hosted a procession on Saturday evening featuring the relics of Saints Basil the Great and Alexander, Patriarch of Constantinople, and Saint Mary Magdalene.
The procession of clergy and faithful was led by Bishop Galaction of Alexandria and Teleorman, together with the Most Reverend Father Nicodim of Skopelos, Bishop Vicar of the Metropolis of Halkida, Isthmia, and the Northern Sporades (Greek Orthodox Church).
The Greek hierarch brought to our country for several days the right hand of Saint Basil the Great.
Bishop Galaction of Alexandria and Teleorman noted that this procession tradition was re-established after 1990.
“We have carried out, according to our Church’s ancient custom renewed after 1990, this procession held each year on the occasion of major feasts, in which, by carrying the holy icons and relics in procession, we pray for the protection of the Most Bountiful God and the Saints for ourselves and for our towns and villages.”
