Orthodox Calendar  August 30 Veneration of the Icon of the Mother of God of Craiova Through the providence of God and the intercessions of the Most Holy Mother of God, the icon of the Mother of God, now venerated in the church known as Madona Dudu , was glorified through miracles in the city of Craiova. History records the miraculous finding of this icon in the 17th century. Thus, in a small clearing in the heart of Craiova, at an old crossroads linking Oltenia with Severin, there was an orchard.

There, among the branches of an old mulberry tree, a Jewish merchant saw the icon of the Mother of God holding the Christ Child in her arms, shining wondrously. Astonished, he climbed the tree and took the icon, hiding it in the attic of his house, intending to sell it. When, however, he went to retrieve it from the attic, he could no longer find it. But when he returned to the orchard, he saw the icon once again in the same old mulberry tree. Taking the icon down again, he brought it to his house and called one of his customers, hoping to persuade him to buy it.

The customer asked to see the icon, but it had disappeared once more, only to be found again in the same mulberry tree.…
