Pro-life, pro-family champion takes helm of Colombia’s Education Ministry

Ilva Myriam Hoyos Castañeda has been tapped to lead Colombiaʼs Ministry of Education following the resignation of Vivian Morales for personal reasons.

The announcement was made by President Abelardo de la Espriella, who thanked the outgoing minister and stated that Hoyos is distinguished by “her talent, strength, integrity, and steadfast defense of values.”

In her new role, Hoyos will have to make decisions regarding the measures left by her predecessor, including the review of school textbooks to remove “woke” ideology from schools and a draft decree that would allow private entities — including religious organizations — to support the provision or administration of educational services in areas with limited state presence.

The proposal sparked a debate regarding the role of churches in public education and the secular nature of the state.

“We are interested because religious education, moral education, and ethical aspects have not received due attention in recent years,” Father Edilberto Estupiñán, director of the Bishops' Conference Department of Education, told EWTN News.

I hope Hoyos continues the work to remove the "woke" ideology from the textbooks. In Albania, we have seen how much damage these things do to young children, so it is good that someone with strong values ​​like her is in charge. Will it allow churches to help more in remote areas?
