Elafonissos celebrated its double anniversarytranslated

On Thursday, July 9, 2026, two anniversaries were celebrated in Elafonisos, with splendor and widespread participation: the union of the island with Greece, following the signing of a contract on July 6, 1850 between Greece and England, and the inauguration of the Holy Church of Agios Spyridon, the patron saint of the island, which this year completes 165 years of operation. In particular, in the morning the Orthros, the blessing of the breads, the High Priestly Divine Liturgy and the Doxology of the pre-eminent of our Venerable Metropolitan Mr. Efstathios were performed. Before the Dismissal, the Pastor thanked the local lords and the pious people for their participation in the celebration, while he wished Saint Spyridon to protect and grace all Elafonisi residents.
Then, before the holy icon of Agios Spyridon and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Voia, a litanic procession was formed, which ended up in the area of Iroos, where a memorial prayer was performed by our Most Reverend Metropolitan. This was followed by the delivery of a solemn speech by the university teacher, theologian and musician, Mr. Antonios Mentis, and the presentation of honors.
