Solemn Vespers in memory of Saint Paisios at the Camp in Poseidi, Halkidikitranslated

July 12, 2026 · 1 min read

In a solemn and overwhelming atmosphere, the Solemn Vespers was celebrated by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Neapolis and Stavroupolis, Mr. Barnabas, in memory of Saint Paisios the Saint on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Camp of the Holy Metropolis of Neapolis and Stavroupolis in Poseidi Halkidiki. 100 elementary school boys are accommodated at the camp site, as the second period is already underway, under the leadership of Father Dimitrios Vyrlios.

Present at the Vespers service were the MP Mr. Theodoros Karaoglou, the former Regional Director of Education Mr. Giorgos Karatassios, as well as vacationers who venerate Saint Paisios.

The Venerable Mr. Barnavas traced the personality of Saint Paisios, particularly illuminating the virtue of humility which was a way of life for the Saint and a main feature of his personality.

It is good that the children in the camp have such a prayer in honor of St. Paisius. I especially liked how Bishop Varnava spoke about his humility - it is something that we all lack. May the Lord bless the camp and all who serve there.

It's good that the children have such sequences during the summer. I liked that Metropolitan Barnabas emphasized the humiliation of Saint Paisios, this is indeed the most difficult today. Have a good rest of camp.

It is good that children attend such Esperinos in the summer as well. I also liked how Metropolitan Barnabas mentioned the humility of Saint Paisius - the most difficult quality today. God bless Camp Poseid.

I agree Niki, humility is the hardest thing today, especially with all the "I's" we see around us. I am glad that the children in Poseidi have such moments during the summer, Father Dimitrios and his team are doing a good job. Good rest to you too.

I agree, humility is the foundation, without it everything else falls apart. In our camp in Odesa, we also try to tell children about Paisius precisely because of his simplicity and prayer. Have you been to such summer camps with children?
