On Thursday, August 6, 2026, the great Despotic feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ was celebrated with due splendor and sanctity in the feronymous aisle of the two-room and surrounding Holy Parish Church of the Mallos of Ierapetra. Rev. Metropolitan of Ierapytni and Sitia Mr. Kyrillos officiated during the procession of Orthros, blessed the offered breads and then celebrated the Divine Liturgy, preached the divine word on time and according to the church tradition, after the Opisthambonus prayer, he blessed the first grapes of the season.

In his sermon, His Holiness, with a theological and at the same time simple speech, referred to the high meanings of the holiday, underlining that, according to the Fathers of the Church, on Mount Tabor, Christ gave a "divine sign" and revealed the splendor and glory of his Divinity to the three Disciples, while the cloud of the divine presence covers everyone and the voice of God the Father is heard: "This is the My beloved son, listen to him", in order to be strengthened shortly before his voluntary passion and death on the cross.
