Giannouli honors Saint Gregory Kallidestranslated

July 25, 2026 · 1 min read

The Parish of Agios Georgios Giannoulis will celebrate and honor Agios Grigorios Kallides, Koumpagiotis, on July 25. Giannouli honors Saint Gregory, because the refugees from Kumbao (Chrysabello) in Eastern Thrace, started from their ancestral homes together with Saint Gregory and came to Greece. Agios Grigorios stayed in Thessaloniki and Koumbagiote families settled in Giannouli. From 2022, a fragment of the Holy Relic of Saint Gregory of Kallides, from Thessaloniki, is located in the Church, by the actions of our Reverend Metropolitan Mr. Ieronymos.

The sequence schedule is as follows:

On Friday, July 24, at 7:30 pm, the Solemn Vespers will be celebrated with Artoklassia.

On Saturday, July 25, in the morning, the Orthros and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated in honor of the Saint.

Thanks for the news. Interesting how the families from Koumbaio came with Saint Gregory and settled exactly in Giannouli, and from 2022 we also have a part of his relics in the church. I'll try to get to vespers Friday night if I finish the paper in time.

Thanks for the article. It is touching to see how the families of Koumbaio arrived with Saint Gregory and found refuge in Giannouli. I hope that the Friday evening service will not be too late for those who work, like Ion. I will pray that everything goes well.

Thanks for the news. It's nice that the Kumbagioti brought their saint with them when they settled in Giannoula, and from 2022 we also have part of the relics in the church. I'll try to make it to vespers on Friday after work.

It’s true that the story of the Koumbaio families who arrived with him is moving, especially when we think of the icons and the memories they kept. For the Epsérinos timetable, 7:30 p.m. remains reasonable here, even for those who finish late like Ion; we often adjust a little. Maybe you’ll come Saturday morning?

The story of those families carrying their saint with them from Koumbaio all the way to Giannouli really stays with you. Good to hear the relic has been there since 2022 thanks to Metropolitan Hieronymos. I'll try to make the Friday vespers myself if the garden doesn't keep me too late.
