High Priestly Divine Liturgy at the Basilica of Agios Achillios Prespa for the 1,400th anniversary of the Akathistos Hymntranslated

On Saturday, August 8, 2026, a High Priestly Divine Liturgy was celebrated with due solemnity in the historic Basilica of Agios Achillios Prespa, on the occasion of the completion of 1,400 years since the composition of the Akathistos Hymn. Following the invitation of the Metropolitan of Floris, Prespa and Eordaia, Mr. Irenaeus, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Larissa and Tyrnavos, Mr. Ieronymos, presided over the Eucharistic Synod, flanked by clergy from both Metropolises.
In his sermon, Metropolitan Larissa thanked His Eminence Metropolitan Mr. Irenaios for the permission and blessing to officiate in the historic Basilica of Agios Achillios. At the same time, he wished the Pastor a speedy recovery from the illness that did not allow him to attend the Divine Liturgy.
He then referred to the completion of 1,400 years since the composition of the Akathistos Hymn, to the timeless position held by this leading hymnographic text in the liturgical life of the Church, as well as to the historical events connected with its genesis and establishment in the consciousness of the Orthodox people.
