Ecumenical Patriarch receives Abbot of Esphigmenou and Ukrainian clergy

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew received Archimandrite Bartholomew, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Esphigmenou on Mount Athos, in audience on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
The Abbot was accompanied by clergy from the Metropolis of Ivano-Frankivsk and Halych of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
During the meeting, the Ukrainian priests presented the Ecumenical Patriarch with the Ukrainian-language edition of the Holy Monastery of Esphigmenou’s publication, “The Athonite Typikon of the Liturgical Service.”
The volume, originally published by the monastery, has now been translated into Ukrainian, making the Athonite liturgical tradition more accessible to Ukrainian clergy and faithful.
The presentation of the translated work underscored the growing spiritual and ecclesiastical ties between the Holy Monastery of Esphigmenou and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, while highlighting ongoing efforts to promote the liturgical heritage of Mount Athos through publications in additional languages.
