What the young people say at ITO 2026: They visited religious and cultural sites of Bucharesttranslated

September 2, 2026 · 1 min read

The participants of the International Meeting of Orthodox Youth (ITO) 2026 explored the main religious and cultural objectives of the Capital on Wednesday. Divided into 20 groups, the approximately 2,400 young people visited churches, monasteries and museums, testifying that the experience gave them the opportunity to get to know the history, spirituality and heritage of Romania better.

The routes included the Patriarchal Cathedral, the National Cathedral, Antim and Radu Vodă Monasteries, Saint Spiridon Vechi Church, Bucur Ciobanul Church, Stavropoleos Monastery and other representative places of worship. The program also included visits to the Cotroceni National Museum, the National History Museum of Romania, the National Art Museum, the National Museum of the "Dimitrie Gusti" Village, the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant and the Palace of the Parliament.

Among the participants were many young people from the diaspora, for whom visiting Bucharest also meant rediscovering their roots.

My niece went to ITO back in 2018 and she still talks about how moved she was standing inside the Stavropoleos monastery church. Nice to see the kids from the diaspora getting to walk through the National Cathedral for the first time; that building really does take your breath away. Did any of the groups make it over to the little Bucur Ciobanul church?
