On Sunday, July 5, Metropolitan Theodosius of Samara and Novokuybyshevsk led the Liturgy in the church in honor of the righteous Alexander Chagrinsky in Samara.

His Eminence was co-served by the rector of the church, Priest Nikolai Sidorov, and the clergy of the metropolis.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Theodosius addressed the clergy and parishioners with an archpastoral word.

Today begins the last week of Peter's Lent. On this day, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the Hieromartyr Eusebius.

Saint Eusebius lived in the 4th century and headed the episcopal see in the city of Samosata. During the reign of Emperor Constantius II, the Arian heresy, which rejected the consubstantiality of the Son of God with God the Father, became widespread.

During this difficult time for the Church, Saint Eusebius contributed to the election of Saint Meletius, known for his commitment to the Orthodox faith, to the See of Antioch. After it became obvious that the new archpastor was a strong defender of the teachings of the Church, supporters of Arianism demanded that Eusebius return the written document on the election of Meletius, but the saint refused to do this.

God bless you for your service. In Vinnytsia, the St. Peter's fast ends this week, and I knew almost nothing about St. Eusebius. It is good that Bishop Theodosius talked about the Arian heresy and its hardness, because now there are also many "new teachings" circulating.
