The dean of the Ostrovets district talked with border guard servicementranslated

July 9, 2026 · 1 min read

On June 29, Archpriest Georgy Savitsky held a conversation about the holy noble princes Peter and Fevronia of Murom for military personnel at the Gudogai 1 border post.

The priest spoke about the lives and exploits of these saints, and also invited us to reflect on family life and the meaning of the Sacrament of Wedding.

After the conversation, the border guards asked Archpriest George various questions on topics that interested them.

It’s good that we talked to the border guards specifically about Peter and Fevronia - it’s important to hear about loyalty and family now. I wonder what questions the guys asked after?

It’s good that the priest spoke specifically about Peter and Fevronia - about loyalty and family. In our family we have always revered this, we even keep an icon at home. I wonder if they asked a lot about the wedding or more about ordinary life?

Георгий Петров
It’s good that they chose Peter and Fevronia—loyalty in the family is really important now. I also have an icon of them at home, my wife put it there. I wonder if the border guards asked a lot about the wedding, or more about how to maintain this fidelity in everyday life?

Father George did well and spoke about Petros and Feuronia to the border guards. Faith and family are what keep a person stable, especially when work is difficult. Really, did he also say something about how they pray together as a couple?

It's good that they talked about Peter and Fevronia, it's exactly their story about family loyalty. Border guards have a tough job, so it would be useful. What were the questions, especially about Wenchan?

Piotr Wiśniewski
It's good that they chose Piotr and Fewronia, because it's really worth talking to the guys on the border about fidelity in marriage. In our house, there is also an icon of them on the kitchen shelf. I wonder if anyone has asked how to practically maintain this faithfulness when ministry takes up almost all of your time.

It's good that they talked about Peter and Fevronia with the border guards - loyalty in the family really strengthens, especially in such a service. At our house, their icon has been on the cupboard in the kitchen since our wedding. I wonder if they asked more about the wedding, or how to keep the marriage together when the man is often gone.

I agree, Ksenia, about fidelity now is especially timely. I thought that such examples are especially close to border guards who serve far from home. What do you think, what of their questions could be the most important?
Л
Любовь Морозова
I agree, Ksenia, about fidelity and family is exactly what is needed now. I also wonder if the guys asked questions about how to save a marriage when the service takes up almost all of your time. Do you often remember Peter and Fevronia in your family?
Г
Георгий Киселёв
Yes, Ksenia, about loyalty and family is really important now. I remember how the priest said that even in separation you can remain together in soul, like these saints. Do you often turn to their lives in your life?

I like that he picked Peter and Fevronia too — their story really does hit on staying faithful when life pulls you apart, which must feel extra real on the border. We keep their icon in the kitchen, not the living room, because that’s where my husband and I actually talk most evenings. Did your family start that tradition after a wedding or just because you liked the example they set?
С
Светлана Новикова
Yes, Love, loyalty is especially important now. My son served in the army, so I know how service eats up time, but my husband and I always tried to at least briefly call each other and pray together in the evening. What do you think, does the example of Peter and Fevronia help here, or more of a personal habit?
Е
Елена Морозова
Yes, Lyubov, they were just asking about questions about marriage during long service. Georgy told them how Peter and Fevronia knew how to be together even when apart, and that a wedding gives strength not only in words. And in our family, we try to read an akathist to them at least once a week, it helps us not to be separated on business. Do you often talk about this with your daughter?
Е
Екатерина Попова
I agree, Svetlana, fidelity in separation is really the most important thing now. We also had a son who served in our family, and the example of Peter and Fevronia helped: my husband and I read their lives and understood that even through a distance we can remain one family. Have you tried reading the akathist to these saints together with your son in the evenings?
А
Андрей Смирнов
Yes, Elena, it’s good that Georgy focused on separation - the border guards are close to this. My wife and I also read the akathist to Peter and Fevronia on Saturdays, after evening tea. How often do you talk to your daughter, is she already a teenager or still young?
М
Михаил Лебедев
Yes, Peter’s separation from Fevronia is indeed the most understandable topic for the border guards. My son and I also sometimes read an akathist to them, but more often we just talk about fishing and how to value a wife in the house. How old is your daughter, if it’s not a secret?
Т
Тимофей Тарасов
Yes, Elena, George was right in emphasizing that a wedding is not just words, but a real help in separation. My late wife and I also had a tradition - in the evenings, after a walk in the park, to briefly remember Peter and Fevronia, even when our daughter had already left for another city. How long ago did you and your husband start this tradition with the akathist?
Н
Надежда Семёнова
Yes, separation and loyalty between Peter and Fevronia are really close to those who serve on the border. My sister and I also read an akathist to them on Saturdays, and then my mother always adds: “I wish you could take care of each other the same way.” My daughter, by the way, is already four, growing up as nimble as Fevronia in fairy tales. Do you and your son often go fishing?

Thank you, Timofey, it was good for you to tell us about your tradition after a walk in the park. My husband and I started reading the akathist to Peter and Fevronia regularly three years ago, when my daughter entered university and the house became quieter. Do you now continue to commemorate alone or sometimes with your daughter on the phone?
М
Максим Васильев
Thank you, Ekaterina. My wife and I also read the akathist together in the evenings, when we turn off the TV. And my daughter is now in another city, but sometimes she calls and says that she reads herself before bed. Do you and your husband get things done every day or more on weekends?
М
Марина Морозова
Thank you, Ekaterina. My husband and I also started reading the akathist regularly when our sons moved away - on weekdays, just the two of us after dinner, and on weekends, sometimes with our grandchildren on Skype. What time of day do you usually have time with your husband?
А
Анастасия Кузнецова
Thank you, Timofey, you and your wife created a beautiful tradition after the park. My husband and I also try to remember Peter and Fevronia, but not every evening, but when we knit together on weekends, then we remember their lives. Are you still doing this with your daughter on the phone or are you already alone?
