The old book exhibition dedicated to the Akathist Hymn of the Mother of God was openedtranslated

The old book exhibition "Byzantium after Byzantium. The Akathist Hymn of the Mother of God reflected in old prints", organized by the Holy Synod Library and the "Carol I" Central University Library, was opened on Thursday in Bucharest.

This brings together 22 editions of old Romanian, Greek and Slavonic books, from 11 printing centers. They illustrate the tradition, circulation and reception of the Akathist Hymn of the Mother of God in the Romanian territories, in the context of the 1,400th anniversary of the composition of this masterpiece of Orthodox hymnography.

Mother of God, landmark of sacrificial love "This event marks the 1,400th anniversary of the historic moment in 626, when Constantinople was miraculously saved from the Avar-Persian siege, through the intercession of the Mother of God," recalled Archim. Policarp Chițulescu, director of the Library of the Holy Synod.

"The exhibited specimens constitute important testimonies for the preservation and transmission of the Orthodox Christian faith, as well as for the history of the printing press, the book and the written culture in the Romanian and European space."
