The discovery of the relics of the holy noble prince Daniel of Moscow (+ 1303), who laid the foundations for the rise of the Moscow principality, is remembered by the Orthodox Church on September 12.

Daniel was born in 1261. He was the youngest son of the legendary Prince Alexander Nevsky. The prince spent his childhood in Tver, where his uncle, Grand Duke of Vladimir Yaroslav Yaroslavich, ruled.

It is not known for certain when and from whom the young prince received Moscow as ruler, but it is assumed that this happened around the 70s of the 13th century.

For the first time in the chronicles, Daniel was mentioned as the Prince of Moscow in 1282. His reign began with the restoration of the city after several years of desolation associated with the invasion of Rus' by hordes of Tatar-Mongols.

Daniil Alexandrovich was forced to take part in a number of military conflicts, but at the same time he behaved as peacefully as possible. It is known that most of the strife in which he participated, without reaching bloodshed, ended in peace. The main task that the prince set for himself was to protect Moscow from ruin through wise policies.
