The limit of this path is visible here. When the voice belongs to the multitude, among the voices there are those who are careless, those who are too confident, and those who present themselves as the voice of the Church. This is exactly what the foreign Regulations warn about, and they warn rightly: no one should pass off a personal opinion as the speech of the Church without authority. The difference is different. The American Church responded to this danger primarily by teaching—by showing how it should be done—and only secondarily by restriction. Punishment where it has not been learned comes late. Today we remember the holy martyrs who gave everything for Christ. The readings from 1 Corinthians and Matthew remind us that our words and promises mean little without real repentance and action. A good day to stop, pray quietly, and choose obedience over empty talk.

In the evening, my daughter and I always stand in front of the home iconostasis in the corner of the living room. I light a small lamp in front of the icon of the Mother of God, which my mother-in-law gave me, and we read "Our Father" and "The Virgin Mary". My son sometimes joins in when he's not late at work, and then he feels calmer before bed.

It was quiet and cozy at the church singing last night. The women and I practiced the troparion for Mary Magdalene a little longer, because her memory is on Sunday. On Saturday my husband and I went to a small monastery near Minsk. Choir rehearsal went well last night. It was a bit difficult when we were learning the new Irmos, but in the end we did it together, the four of us. When I got home, I made tea and read a book a little.

I went on Saturday to the small monastery above Ptelea. I said my prayer in the little church and then I sat for a while in their garden, next to the flowers planted by the old man. I also remembered Mary Magdalene whom we celebrate today, how she sought the Lord with such simplicity. I came home calm, as if I had gone fishing.
