By the grace of the all-generous God, the Creator and Creator of all things, our Lord Jesus Christ and his most pure Mother of God, the Holy Theotokos, here is the humble and God-loving Bishop of the God-saved Veliky Novgorod and Pskov, Bishop Theophilus, having been and held unction in the magnificent church of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity in the God-saved city Pskov 2911 and praying to God with the priests for their Lord, the great princes, for the Grand Duke Ivan Vasilyevich of All Rus', and his son for the Grand Duke Ivan Ivanovich of All Rus', and for all the boyars and for his soldiers, and for their children, for Veliky Novgorod and for Pskov, and for all Orthodox Christians, and going to their table, to the holy house Sophia of the Wisdom of God, in God-saved Veliky Novgorod, I leave peace and blessing to my son, the great princes, the governor of Pskov, Prince Yaroslav Vasilyevich, as well as to my sons, the Pskov mayors and all the old Pskov mayors, and the sons of the mayors, and the boyars, and the merchants, and the Sotskys, and all of Pskov, the children to our own, as well as to our fellow servants of humility, abbots and holy monks, and cathedral elders and priests, priests and holy deacons, the entire divine priesthood of the God-saved city of Pskov. And I leave you, sons, in your place, at your holy court, and at your entrance, and for all your duties, your governor...: and you come to him for trial and for all reprisals, and hold honor over him, with our blessing; and you, priests, who did not pay for my entrance, and you pay him our entrance, to the house of St. Sophia and me, purely, in the old way, without any oblivion, and give food in the old way; and those priests who do not pay for my entrance, and I do not order them to perform the liturgy. And this, cathedral elders and cathedral priests, is laid down on your souls. May the mercy of God be upon all of us, and our blessing upon all of you in this age and in the age to come, so that the Lord may vouchsafe us humble ones to stand at his right hand and hear his blessed voice: “Ye blessed of my Father shall come, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” And may the God of peace and the Lord of comfort be with us all! Amen. The local chronicle says about this: “The Most Reverend Archbishop of Veliky Novgorod and Pskov, Bishop Theophilus, arrived in Pskov, on the month of December 24... Having gathered at the Holy Trinity on January 13, in the week, and having been in Pskov and blessing his children throughout Pskov, he departed with honor and with a farewell from Pskov on the month of January 21” (6985).
