Vassian (Prince Obolensky) was installed as bishop of Tver by Metropolitan Gerontius († 1488) in 1478. Behold, Vassian, Bishop of Tver, I give this letter of mine to my master, the most reverend Gerontius, Metropolitan of All Russia: whatever God’s great work, according to the holy rules, my Most Reverend Master, the Holy Metropolitan, Gerontius of All Russia, wants [to establish] at a council, a bishop or an apostle, to establish, or to administer church affairs, according to the saints to the apostolic rules, and with him my God-loving brethren, apostles and bishops, and I give my will and desire to my master, the Most Reverend Gerontius, Metropolitan of All Russia, and with my brethren, with the Orthodox archbishops and Russian bishops, I also am with them in one will and desire for those divine deeds. - Humble Vasian, Bishop of Tver, signed with his own hand.
