Гимн 37. Учение с богословием о действиях святой любви, т. е. самого света Духа Святого 300 .

Machine translation from the original · Show original
Who can, Master, tell about You? Those who do not know (You) are mistaken, knowing nothing at all; Those who have come to know Your Divinity by faith They are possessed by great fear and are terrified with trembling, Not knowing what to say to them (about You), for You are beyond understanding, And everything (with You) is unimaginable and incomprehensible: Thy works, and Thy glory, and Thy knowledge. We know that You are God, and we see Your light, But what kind of person you are and what kind of person you are - no one knows for sure. However, we have hope, we have faith And we know the love that You gave us, Limitless, ineffable, in no way 301 inconceivable, Which is light, unapproachable light and accomplishing everything. It is called sometimes Your hand, sometimes your eye, Now with the most holy lips, now with power, now with glory 302, Then one recognizes (as) the most beautiful face. He is the unsetting sun for those high in Divine (things), He is an ever-shining star for those who cannot contain (anything) more. It is the opposite of sadness, drives away hostility And completely destroys satanic envy. At the beginning it softens and, purifying, refines, Dispels thoughts and reduces movements. He secretly teaches to humble himself And it does not allow you to scatter and stagger. On the other hand, he clearly separates from the world And it produces oblivion of everything sorrowful in life. He nourishes and quenches thirst in many ways, And he gives strength to those who work well. It extinguishes irritation and sadness of the heart, Absolutely not allowing anger or indignation. (When) he runs away, those wounded (by him) chase him And with great love from the heart they seek him. (When) he returns and appears and shines with philanthropy, It inspires those who are persecuting to evade (from him) and humble themselves; And being repeatedly sought, (encourages) to move away from fear, How unworthy of such a good that surpasses every creature. O ineffable and incomprehensible gift! For what (only) does he not do and what does not happen? He is delight and joy, gentleness and peace, Innumerable mercy, an abyss of compassion. It is seen invisibly, fits uncontainably And it is contained in my mind inviolably and intangibly. Having him, I do not contemplate, but contemplating until he is gone, I try to quickly grab (him), but he all flies away. Perplexed and inflamed, I learn to ask And seek (him) with lamentation 303 and great humility And don't think that the supernatural is possible For my strength or human efforts, But - for the goodness of God and boundless mercy. Appearing for a short time and hiding, he One by one, it drives passions out of the heart. For man cannot overcome passions, If he doesn't come to the rescue; And again, not everything is expelled at once, For it is impossible to perceive the whole Spirit at once A soulful person and become dispassionate. But when he does everything he can: Non-covetousness, impartiality, distance from one’s own, Cutting off the will and renouncing the world, Patience of temptations, prayer and crying, Poverty and humility, as far as he has strength; Then for a short time, as it were, the thinnest and smallest light, Suddenly surrounding his mind, he will delight in a frenzy, But so that he does not die, he will soon leave (him), With such great speed that nothing can be imagined, It is impossible for one who has seen the beauty (of light) to remember, Lest, when he was a child, he should taste the food of perfect men And he did not immediately break up or receive harm by vomiting (her). So, ottole (light) guides, strengthens and instructs; When we need him, he shows up and runs away; Not when we wish, for this is (the work of) the perfect, But when we are in difficulty and completely exhausted, He comes to the rescue, rising from afar, And makes me feel it in my heart. Stunned and out of breath, I want to hold him. But [around] everything is night. With empty and pitiful hands, I forgot everything, I sit and cry, Not hoping to see him in the same way another time. When, having cried enough, I want to stop, Then he, coming, mysteriously touches my crown. I burst into tears, not knowing who it is; And [then] it illuminates my mind with a very sweet light. When I find out who it is, he immediately flies away, Leaving within me the fire of Divine love for myself, Which does not allow you to laugh or look at people, Neither accept (in oneself) desires for anything visible. Little by little, through patience, it flares up and swells, Becoming a great flame reaching to the heavens. It is quenched by relaxation and entertainment with household (things), For in the beginning there is also concern for worldly affairs; Returns silence and hatred to all glory, Wandering the earth and trampling oneself like dung, For in this he delights and deigns to be present, Teaching [through this] almighty humility. So, when I acquire this and become humble, Then he is inseparable from me: He talks to me, enlightens me, looks at me, and I look at him. He is in my heart and abides in heaven. He explains the Scriptures to me and increases my knowledge, He teaches me mysteries that I cannot speak. It shows how he took me away from the world, And he commands me to be merciful to everyone in the world. So the walls contain me and the body holds me, But I truly, have no doubt, am outside them. I don't feel sounds or hear voices. I am not afraid of death, for I have surpassed it too. I do not know what sorrow is, although everyone makes me sad. Pleasures are bitter for me, all passions flee [from me], And I constantly see light at night and during the day. Day for me is night, and night is day. I don’t even want to sleep, because this is a loss for me. When will all sorts of troubles surround me? And, it would seem, they will overthrow and overcome me, Then I, suddenly finding myself with him (the light) outside of everything Joyful and sad, and worldly pleasures, I enjoy inexpressible and divine joy, I am amused by his beauty, I often hug him, I kiss and worship with great gratitude To those who gave me (the opportunity) to see what I desired, And partake of the ineffable light, and become light, And the gift of joining him from here, And to acquire the Giver of all blessings, And not be deprived of spiritual gifts. Who attracted me and directed me to these benefits? Who raised me from the depths of worldly delusion? Who separated (me) from my father and brothers and friends And relatives, pleasures and joys of the world? Who showed me the path of repentance and crying, By which I have found a day without end? (That) was an Angel, not a man 304. However, such a person Who laughs at the world and tramples the dragon, At whose presence demons tremble. How will I tell you, brother, about what I saw in Egypt, About the signs and wonders he performed? I’ll tell you this one thing for now, because I can’t tell you everything. He came down and found me a slave and a stranger [in Egypt]. (Come) here, my child, he said, I will lead you to God. Out of great disbelief, I answered him: What sign will you show me to assure me That you yourself can free me from Egypt And snatch me away from the hands of the flattering Pharaoh, so that, following you, I would not be exposed to even greater danger? Light, he said, a great fire, so that I can enter into the midst, And if I do not remain unscorched, then do not follow me. These words struck me. I did as ordered. The flame was kindled, and he himself stood in the middle. Safe and sound, he (still) invited me. I am afraid, sir, I said, (for) I am a sinner. Coming out [of the fire], he came up to me and kissed me. Why are you afraid, he told me, why are you timid and trembling? How great and terrible is this miracle? - you will see more than this. I am terrified, sir, I said, and I don’t dare approach you, Not wanting to be more daring than fire. For I see that you are a man superior to man, And I do not dare to look at you, of whom the fire is ashamed. Pulling me closer, he embraced me And again he kissed me with a holy kiss, Himself fragrant with the fragrance of immortality. [After this] I believed and followed him with love. Desiring to become his slave alone. Pharaoh held me (in his power), and terrible guards (him) They forced me to take care of the bricks and thatch. I alone could not escape, since I did not have a weapon. Moses 305 prayed to God for help. Christ strikes Egypt with tenfold plagues. But Pharaoh did not submit and did not free me. The father prays, and God listens (to him) And he tells his servant to take me by the hand, Promising (Himself) to go with us, (To) deliver (me) from Pharaoh and from the disasters of Egypt. He has put boldness in my heart And he gave (me) courage not to fear Pharaoh. Holding my hand, he walked ahead of me, And thus we began to make the journey. Give me, Lord, through the prayers of my father, understanding And the word (to) tell about the wondrous (deeds) of Your hand, Which You did for me, who was lost and prodigal, By the hand of Your servant He brought me out of Egypt. Having learned about (my) departure, the king of Egypt 306 He neglected (me) as if he were one, and did not come out himself, But he sent slaves under his control. They ran and overtook (me) within the borders of Egypt, (But) everyone returned empty-handed and broken: They broke their swords, shook out their arrows, Their hands weakened, acting 307 against us, And we remained completely unharmed. [Before us] a pillar of fire was burning, and [above us] there was a cloud; And we walked alone in a foreign country, Among robbers, among great nations and kings. (When) the king also learned about the defeat of his people, Then he became furious, considering it a great dishonor To be mocked and defeated by one person. He harnessed his chariots and raised the people And he chased himself with great boasting. When he arrived, he found me alone, lying from fatigue; Moses stayed awake and talked with God. He ordered me to be tied hand and foot, And, holding me back through opinion, they tried to tie me up; I, lying down, laughed and, armed with prayer And with the sign of the cross, he reflected them all. Not daring to touch or come close to me, They, standing somewhere at a distance, thought to frighten me: Holding fire in their hands, they threatened to burn me, They raised a loud cry and made noise. So that they do not boast that they have done something great, They saw that I too had become light through the prayers of my father, And, disgraced, they suddenly (all) left together. Moses came out from God and, finding me bold, Delighted and in awe of this miracle, He asked: what happened? I told him all this: That there was a Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, Having now come with countless people, And he couldn't tie me up; he wanted to burn me And all those who came with him became flames, Shooting fire against me from your mouth; But since they saw that I became light through your prayers, Then everything turned into darkness; and [here] now I am alone. Look, Moses answered me, don’t be arrogant, Do not look at the obvious, (much less) fear the secret, Hurry! let us take advantage of flight, as God commands; And Christ will defeat the Egyptians in our place. Let's go, sir, - I said, - I will not be separated from you, I will not break your commandments, but I will keep everything. Amen. In P. r. this is the 18th word; in l. however, both this and the further six hymns, ending with the 43rd, are missing. In P. r. not μηδαμῶς, but μηδαμου - nowhere. μετὰ κλαθμῶν, in P. r. με τὰ κλαθμοῦ, i.e. (to look for) what relates to crying, or simply crying. Here St. Simeon speaks about his spiritual father - Simeon the Studite or Blagoveinny. that is, the spiritual father of St. Simeon, who was discussed above. This verse is taken from P. r.; in the printed text it is omitted, probably due to an oversight. In P. r. here the more correct reading is: ἐνεργοῦσαι, and not ἐνεργᾶσαι. You might be interested in:
