“Rejoice, thirsty desert, let the desert rejoice and let it bloom like a tree... Let it leap like a chamois, and let Lebanon be the glory, and the honor of Carmel and Sharon" (Is. 35:1-2). This is what the prophet says about the land of Israel, which was devastated by the Babylonians, but upon the return of the Jews from captivity, enjoying peace, it regained its former honor and glory. “Be strong, weakened hands and wavering knees, strengthened” (Is. 35:3), either because the time of return from captivity has approached, or because salvation and the time of eternal peace have already arrived. “Behold, God the Savior... will come and save you. Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf will hear. Then the lame will leap like a tree, and the tongue of the humming will be clear” (Is. 35: 4-6). The Prophet foretells future blessings to the Jews for those oppressions from the Assyrians and Babylonians, which led them into a stupor, because of which they saw They did not see, and hearing did not understand. Therefore, now he predicts that they will be in a state opposite to the previous one, that the eyes of the blind and the ears of the deaf will be opened. All this was completely accomplished by the Messiah. For He, as it were, broke through (broke through) from heaven, like living water, descended into this world - this thirsty desert, and became, as it were, a source of refuge among the barren wilds (valley). “In the dwelling of the jackals, where they alone rest, reeds, grass and rush will grow” (Is. 35:7). These plants, unusual in the sandy desert, depict the good morals of people after the world is consoled by the coming of the Messiah, and the human race bears fruit in all kinds of virtues. God, through the prophet, consoles the Jews with the fact that after the destruction of the Assyrians and Babylonians, their land will enjoy peace, all kinds of plants will decorate it, and abundant streams and earthly fruits will be in great abundance. “But deliverance will follow it” (Is. 35:9). “The redeemed of the Lord,” that is, the delivered pagans of all countries will return to give worship and thanksgiving to God for the salvation they have achieved, and for the grace they have received. “Sickness and sorrow and sighing will have escaped” (Isa. 35:10); all the sorrows that befell them during the captivity will cease in those days.
