More than anyone else, he inspires zeal for the inner life of grace... How persistently he sets out the essence of the work of Christian life, producing it throughout all space from the Lord the Savior - exclusively. And he explains everything so clearly that it unquestioningly captivates the mind and demands obedience,” the saint testified in his letters while working on the translation. The main subject of Saint Simeon’s instructions is hidden work in Christ. He explains the ways of internal warfare, teaches measures of improvement, and forces one to struggle primarily against spiritual passions, against sinful thoughts and movements. The Monk Simeon speaks about this as only a person who has studied moral life by experience can speak, and not for a year, but for decades. The modern Greek translation was made from manuscripts in which, along with the works of Simeon the New Theologian, the works of Constantine Chrysomalus were included (Homilies 7, 8, 12, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30, 31, 33, 37, 44, 48, 51, 68).
