On September 30, a memorial service was held for the Rostov mayor Andrei Matveevich Baikov in the Konstantin-All Saints Church. This year marks 137 years since his death.
2026 has been declared the Year of Andrei Baikov in Rostov-on-Don. The decision was made on the initiative of the head of the city of Rostov-on-Don, Alexander Scriabin, in connection with the 195th anniversary of the mayor’s birth.
The history of the All Saints Church, destroyed in 1966, is connected with the name of Andrei Baikov. In 1868, at the expense of the mayor, the Church of All Saints was built at the New Settlement Cemetery. Andrei Matveevich was buried here. After the destruction of the church, its tombstone was also lost.
Together with the parishioners of the Konstantin-All Saints Church, the memory of the mayor was honored by the deputy head of the Rostov-on-Don administration for internal policy, Andrei Kosenko, the deputy chairman of the Rostov-on-Don City Duma, Sergei Sukhariev, and the chairman of the committee on interethnic issues, religion and Cossacks of the city administration, Yulia Akinina.
The rector of the church, Priest Alexy Kashuba, thanked those gathered for their joint prayer for the repose of the soul of Andrei Baikov and called on them to take care of the history and heritage of their native city.…
