I wonder where exactly they kept it all those years too. Nice to see something like that finally going back where it belongs. Makes you think about all the other bits of church history still tucked away in foreign museums.
Nice to see that such a piece of church history is finally coming back to Greece. I would also be interested to know which museum or monastery in Bulgaria it was in all these years. Hopefully it will now be well protected and made accessible to the faithful.
I wonder where exactly they kept that stuff in Bulgaria all those years too. Good it’s finally heading back to Greece where it belongs. Hope they put it on display for regular folks to see, not just locked away again.
I’m curious too — apparently it was in some museum storage in Sofia for decades after they found it in the 70s. Hopefully it does go on public display in Greece this time; a few of these pieces are stunning up close.
Well said, Theresa. I read that it was in the National Historical Museum in Sofia for a long time, pretty much hidden in the depot. Hopefully it will now go to a monastery where people can actually see it and pray, not just behind glass.
I read they were in a locked storeroom at the National Archaeological Museum in Sofia since the mid-70s, not on show at all. Makes you wonder what else is gathering dust there. I hope the Greeks do put them out properly this time too.
Yes, the storage life in the museum in Sofia was a real shame for such a piece. Hopefully it will go to a monastery where you can look at it in peace and light a candle. Do you know the monastery they are talking about?
