Over 388 million Christians from all over the world are being persecutedtranslated

August 22nd has been established since 2019 by a resolution of the UN General Assembly as "International Day of Remembrance for Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief". The purpose of establishing this day is to strongly condemn the increasing violence and terrorism perpetrated on the basis of religion and belief.

According to the latest international report of the Open Doors World Watch List for 2026, Christians are for another year the most persecuted socio-religious group on the planet, with more than 388 million Christians suffering high levels of persecution and discrimination for their faith.

Violence against Christians in numbers In summary for the period 2026, 4,849 Christians were murdered, 3,632 attacks were made on churches and Christian properties, and 4,712 Christians were imprisoned. Also, in conclusion, 1 in 7 Christians are persecuted worldwide, 1 in 5 Christians are persecuted in Africa, and 2 in 5 Christians are persecuted in Asia.
