Romanian president praises Patriarch Daniel’s ‘renewed energy’ and openness to dialogue

Romanian President Nicușor Dan sent a message on Wednesday marking the 75th birthday of Patriarch Daniel , praising the Romanian Orthodox Church’s contribution to national unity, education, philanthropy and the preservation of the country’s spiritual identity.
In his message, the President described the Patriarch’s leadership as a source of renewal and dialogue, while remaining firmly rooted in the foundational values of Christianity. He said Patriarch Daniel’s vision has strengthened the Church’s multifaceted mission and its engagement with contemporary society.
The head of state also highlighted the Romanian Orthodox Church’s role as one of the country’s most trusted institutions, particularly at a time marked by moral uncertainty, individualism and social fragmentation. He said the Church continues to unite Romanians at home and abroad through faith, cultural memory and a shared spiritual heritage.
President Dan further commended the Church’s commitment, under Patriarch Daniel’s leadership, to education, charitable work, support for vulnerable people, and the promotion of peaceful coexistence among Romania’s recognised religious communities and national minorities.…
