Romanian president praises Patriarch Daniel’s ‘renewed energy’ and openness to dialogue

Romanian President Nicușor Dan sent a message on Wednesday marking the 75th birthday of Patriarch Daniel , praising the Romanian Orthodox Church’s contribution to national unity, education, philanthropy and the preservation of the country’s spiritual identity.

In his message, the President described the Patriarch’s leadership as a source of renewal and dialogue, while remaining firmly rooted in the foundational values of Christianity. He said Patriarch Daniel’s vision has strengthened the Church’s multifaceted mission and its engagement with contemporary society.

The head of state also highlighted the Romanian Orthodox Church’s role as one of the country’s most trusted institutions, particularly at a time marked by moral uncertainty, individualism and social fragmentation. Thank you for these words. I especially liked that the president mentioned educational and charity work - we often see this in Georgia. It is good when the church unites people like this.

Salome, this is the educational work I mean when I read the scriptures to the children in my garden on Sunday. It unites us as the President mentioned to the Romanians. Which charity project did you see last time?

I liked that the president mentioned the work for education and for people in need, because even in Elbasan our church has similar programs with school children. My daughter often tells me how priests help poor families with books and food. It really brings us together, without too many big words.

Nana, you are right, educational work is very important. I also often tell stories from the Bible to the children in my class, especially the story of St. George. What was the last charity project you saw?
