Four copies of miracle-working icons of the Mother of God from Holy Mount Athos were brought this summer to the Şerban Vodă Parish in the Capital.

Bringing the Athonite icons offers the faithful from Bucharest and other localities an opportunity to pray, worship and honor the Mother of God.

"For women who cannot go to the Holy Mountain, the presence of these icons in the church also represents a living connection with the Athonite spirit and tradition", emphasized the parish priest Adrian Chiriță.

Photo: Lumina newspaper Father Dinu Pompiliu, minister at the Şerban Vodă Parish, said that one of the most beautiful ways to bring the community closer to the Mother of God and the Holy Mount Athos was to bring to the parish copies of the icons honored in the great Athonite monasteries.

According to tradition, the icon of the Mother of God "Portărița" from the Iviron Monastery is placed in the chapel at the gate of the monastery, which is where its name comes from.
