October 3: Saint Dionysios the Areopagite celebratestranslated

Today, Saturday, October 3, our Holy Orthodox Church honors the memory of the Holy Hieromartyr Dionysios the Areopagit, who came from the city of Athens. He was distinguished by deep philosophical training and spiritual pursuits. He was a member of the House of the Supreme Court, i.e. the highest court of Athens.
The Apostle Paul, on the rocky hill of Areos, preached to the Areopagites and the other Athenians the teaching of Christ, with his famous speech "about an unknown God". And of these, Dionysios and Hierotheos were the first to believe after hearing the words of the Apostle Paul.
Hierarch Dionysios distinguished himself for his deep spiritual cultivation and virtuous life, making use of all the insider knowledge and judicial experience he acquired. He was rewarded by God for his Christian activity with the gift of performing miracles in the Holy Spirit.
He died a martyr leaving a great legacy to his descendants. He is the patron saint of Athens and the patron saint of lawyers and judges.
