The traditional Week of Prayer will be held in penitentiary institutions of the Middle Urals from October 8 to 14, 2026 and will end with the Day of Mercy and Compassion for everyone in chains and prisons. This is a traditional holiday dedicated to the Day of the Intercession of our Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary.

“The Week of Prayer is celebrated twice a year – from October 8 to 14, and on the Week of the Cross in Lent,” said Archpriest Alexy Eliseev, dean of the parishes of the Ekaterinburg diocese in prisons, assistant to the head of the GUFSIN in the Sverdlovsk region for organizing work with believers, and rector of the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Bolshoye Sedelnikovo. – During the week, every day we focus our attention on topics related to the penitentiary system. In churches and prayer rooms at correctional colonies and pre-trial detention centers we will pray with special petitions for prisoners in custody, for the execution of justice, for deepening care for victims of crime, for increasing love in the families of prisoners, for the return of former prisoners to civil society, for employees of the penal system, for prison clergy and...
