The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church convened for a regular session on July 16 at the Danilov Monastery in Moscow, under the chairmanship of Patriarch Kirill. The Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States has designated Sunday, July 26, as Prison Ministry Awareness Sunday. Hundreds of Orthodox parishes across jurisdictions will join that day in prayer and teaching about ministry to the incarcerated. It is good to read about the Zograf monastery and the new abbot. The Bulgarian deputy minister met with him, this shows that the relationship with Mount Athos is still strong. And for the prison ministry Sunday in America - good that they do it, prayer for these people is never superfluous.

Glad you mentioned Zograf and the new abbot. Here in Poltava, they also remember how the Bulgarians have kept their abode on Mount Athos for so many centuries. As for the Sunday of prayer for prisoners in America, I wonder if many of our parishes participate in this, or if it is more their interjurisdictional matter.

It is good that they mention the meeting of the Bulgarian deputy minister with the new abbot of Zograf. We in Plovdiv often hear about Mount Athos from people who have been there, and I am always happy when the connection with Bulgaria remains strong. And for prison ministry Sunday in America - good that they are doing it, praying for these people really helps.

I also heard about the new abbot, I am glad that the Bulgarian deputy minister went in person - such meetings really keep the relationship going. I agree about Sunday in America, prayer for prisoners is needed, especially when I see how little is said about them here in our country.
