La biserică din Sibiu, la Sfânta Maria, mesterii au sculptat iconostasul din lemn de plop, iar acum mă întreb dacă în Urals folosesc și ei lemn de brad sau pini, așa cum face mesterul din Sibiu, care nu așteaptă să-i plătească cineva, ci face lucrul ca o rugăciune.

Interesting question from Bogdan. In the Urals they mostly carve from pine or cedar because the wood is tough and grows everywhere around here. Our local guys at the Perm workshop say pine holds detail better in the cold winters than poplar would.

La noi în București, la biserica Sf. Spiridon Nou, iconostasul e tot din lemn de tei, mai moale și se lucrează frumos, dar înțeleg că pinul din Urali ține mai bine la ger, cum zice James. Mesterul din Sibiu are dreptate, lucrul ca rugăciune nu așteaptă plată. Oare la Perm atelierul acela face și iconostase întregi sau doar părți?

Στο Ηράκλειο μας, ο ξυλογλύπτης του Αγίου Μηνά χρησιμοποιεί κυρίως κυπαρίσσι για το τέμπλο, γιατί αντέχει την υγρασία. Αναρωτιέμαι αν στο Περμ το πεύκο που λένε ο James κρατάει το ίδιο καλά και στην υγρασία του Ουραλίου ή μόνο στον παγετό. Ενδιαφέρον πάντως το ότι ο μάστορας από Σιμπίου το κάνει σαν προσευχή χωρίς να περιμένει πληρωμή.

Ο ξυλογλύπτης στο Ηράκλειο έχει δίκιο για το κυπαρίσσι, κρατάει χρόνια με την υγρασία. Στο Περμ όμως ο James είπε ότι χρησιμοποιούν κυρίως πεύκο από τα Ουράλια και το βερνικώνουν καλά για να μην πιάνει υγρασία, αλλιώς σαπίζει γρήγορα. Ο μάστορας από το Σιμπίου που το κάνει σαν προσευχή μου θύμισε τον παππού μου που έφτιαχνε στασίδια χωρίς να ζητάει λεφτά, ωραίο αυτό. Εσύ έχεις δει τέτοια έργα από κυπαρίσσι από κοντά;
