What inspired you to study at the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey, and what were you hoping to gain from the experience?

Rev. Hyde Riley : I didn ’ t know much about Bossey at the time, but I knew it was an ecumenical institution which would provide an opportunity for shared learning, dialogue, and exchange of ideas through different contextual lenses. Very importantly, I was going to be utilizing a period of sabbatical provided for by my church and wanted an experience that would also allow for personal renewal and rejuvenation. I took on the challenge to pursue the Complementary Certificate in Ecumenical Studies which would guarantee full engagement in the programme instead of just being an observer. Looking back, I have concluded that I could not have chosen a better…

It is interesting, Mary, that Rev. Merlin also preferred Bossey during his sabbatical and got fully involved with the Complementary Certificate. My daughter attended church courses in Telavi with a similar program a few years ago, and I also recommended the same thing — renewal and learning together are very good. If there were really more such opportunities in our church, many clergy would benefit.

It is interesting, Anna, that your daughter attended a similar program in Telavi. I would recommend such an update to myself, but the job of an accountant and the upbringing of two sons do not allow it yet. What courses did your daughter take mostly?

Yes, Levan, Telavi was a really good experience for him. Mainly ecumenical theology, interpretation of the Bible and church history were passed. When you get the time, definitely go - it will be even more interesting for you as two boys grow up.
