The joy of meeting: Sunday school gathered friends again

The grand opening of the new school year in Sunday school took place in the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the city of Postavy. According to good tradition, the rector of the church, Archpriest Valery Pashkevich, served a prayer service, during which he asked for God's blessing for the upcoming studies, as well as the gift of reason, zeal, and spiritual strength to the students. At the end of the prayer service, the priest addressed everyone present with words of fatherly parting words and blessings. At the organizational meeting, the director of the Sunday school, Irina Vladimirovna Kolesen, told the students and their parents about the work of the school and introduced them to the teachers. She recalled that the main goal of attending Sunday school is not just the acquisition of knowledge, but the cultivation of living faith in children’s hearts, and wished all the students new useful knowledge, discoveries, miracles and joys from the Lord!

Good to see Fr. Valery serving the moleben again this year. My little cousin goes to Sunday school up in Pittsburgh and the first gathering always feels like that same mix of nerves and excitement. Sounds like the kids in Postavy got a solid start with Irina Vladimirovna laying out the real goal right up front.

It's good that Father Valerij served the prayer service again, it always sets the right tone. Irina Vladimirovna nicely reminded that it is not only about knowledge, but about living faith - that is the most important thing. I hope the children will have many of those little open wonders in their hearts this year, as she wished.
