Scattered Across the World, United in One Prayer

August 31, 2026 · 1 min read

As we move through the quiet hours of evening, consider the ancient, living practice that binds us across vast distances in a single, powerful act of faith. The Orthodox tradition of prayer by agreement, rooted in the promise of Christ in Matthew 18:19—"If two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven"—is a profound expression of our communal life. At Orthodox House Social, this beautiful custom is being renewed for our time.

Currently, we nurture eleven active prayer groups, where faithful souls gather in spirit, sharing a common prayer at a set hour. Each group maintains a heartfelt list of names—those who are ill, the departed, and all for whom we lift our hearts. A gentle reminder arrives shortly before the hour, inviting you to join this sacred moment. This evening, at 21:00 UTC, our global group "Universal Prayer for Peace" invites all of us to pray together for the healing of our world, a simple yet mighty act of hope.

The numbers may seem small now, but the spirit of this practice is growing. We warmly invite you to create a prayer group for your own parish, diocese, or local Church community. Imagine the strength of your sisters and brothers gathered in one prayer, lifting up their specific needs and concerns, united in Christ. This is more than a schedule; it is a shared journey of faith, a tangible sign of the Kingdom being built among us. Come, join the communion of prayer. Visit the Prayers section on Orthodox House Social to find the current schedule, see the lists of those being remembered, and be part of this living tradition. Let us pray together, as one body, in one voice.

Možda probam ponovo sa ovim "Universal Prayer for Peace" večeras u 21.00, vidim kako ide.

Petar, I'm really interested in how it went with you in Kragujevac - did you pray from a specific list of names or a general one? I will be joining this "Universal Prayer for Peace" tonight at 21, so let's see if more people will gather. It might be worth trying again in the parish, but with some fixed days of the week to get used to.
