The Palace of the University of Bucharest has regained its symbols destroyed in the bombings of 1944, after the royal eagle and the two griffins were reinstalled on the pediment of the building on Saturday.

The University of Bucharest (UB) announced that the reinstallation of the sculptures is "the first step of the complete restoration of the original pediment of the Palace of the University of Bucharest".

"The assembled ensemble is made of bronze and consists of an eagle weighing approximately one ton and two griffins weighing approximately 300 kilograms each, making the entire ensemble weigh 1.6 tons," the higher education institution said in a post on its official Facebook page.

The work, worth approximately two million lei, is signed by the sculptor Alexandru Siminic, together with his collaborators, Teodor and Ștefan Siminic, being made using the traditional technique of bronze cast through lost wax, chiseled and patinated.
