Organizational meeting in the icon painting circle at the Samara Theological Seminarytranslated

On September 12, at the Samara Theological Seminary, an organizational meeting and enrollment of students in the icon painting circle, operating at the Center for Additional Education SamDS, took place. More than 40 people with different levels of training showed interest in the training. The presidium of the meeting included the rector of the Samara Theological Seminary, Archpriest Maxim Kokarev, the head of the Center for Additional Education of SamDS Natalya Aleksandrovna Zababurina, the icon painter-restorer Hieromonk Bartholomew (Danilov), as well as the diocesan archivist, candidate of philosophical sciences, associate professor of the department of church-practical disciplines of the seminary Elena Vladimirovna Deeva. During the meeting, the students were presented with the curriculum, which is a full-fledged and comprehensive educational course. The training includes an extensive theoretical block on the history of Christian art, a complex of theological disciplines and an in-depth course in liturgics.

This systematic approach is intended to give future icon painters the necessary theoretical basis, understanding of the artistic language and liturgical context of church painting. Theoretical classes for the recruited group will begin in the near future, and for the practical block students...

It’s good that the program was made so thorough - history of art, theology and liturgics together. Last year, many of us in the circle lacked a theoretical basis. I wonder when exactly the first classes will start, have they already announced?

It is interesting that the program was put together so thoroughly - with art history, theology and liturgics. Last year, in our circle, too, many were missing theory, as Maxim wrote. It’s a pity that they haven’t announced the exact dates of the first classes yet, I’ll follow the updates.
