August 14, 2026 · 1 min read

The last Prayer Canon for this year to the Most Holy Theotokos was performed yesterday, Thursday, August 13, by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Mantineia and Kynouria Mr. Epifanios in the historic Monastery of Dormition of the Virgin Eloni Kynouria. The Metropolitan officiated during the Mass, flanked by Priests of the Region and the Deacon of the Metropolis.

The Most Reverend Metropolitan thanked Theophilus. Bishop of Tegea Mr. Theoklitos as President of the Administrative Committee, the members, as well as the ministers of the Holy Monastery.

A multitude of believers attended the Procession, which arrived at the I. Monastery after traveling for more than six hours to venerate the Holy Icon of the Virgin Mary.

The Mayor of South Kynouria, Mr. Emmanouil Dolianitis, also attended the procession.

Afterwards, the Most Reverend Metropolitan went to the village of Kosmas Kynourias, where he performed the Prayer Rule and spoke to the faithful in the presence of the vicar Fr. Georgios Kyrios - Karvelis.

Thanks for the news. It is interesting that so many pilgrims walked for more than six hours to venerate the icon. And in Kosma, the bishop also gave a sermon - it’s good that people could listen.

The six-hour hike really stuck with me—imagine walking that long just to venerate the icon. Nice that the bishop thanked Bishop Theoklitos and the whole committee at Eloni, and then went on to Kosmas to preach too. Sounds like a full day for everyone.

The six-hour hike to Eloni took me by surprise. People really love that iconostasis of the Most Holy. I wonder if some people here in Ohrid would walk so long to visit the Virgin Mary.

The six hour walk to Eloni shows how much people respect it. It is good that Despotis then went to Kosmas and spoke to the people with Fr. Georgios. I hope next year I can go too.

Yes, six hours of walking is no small task. Here in Ohrid, many people come on foot to "St. Kliment" or "St. Naum" on Assumption, but not for so long. I wonder if there would be people for such a trip to a smaller monastery church here?

The pilgrimage of more than six hours on foot to the icon of the Virgin in Eloni struck me. It’s nice to see that people care so much about it, even in the middle of August. I hope that next year the Metropolitan will be able to return to Kosmas, it seemed like a good time for everyone.
